"Give
us your
heartwarmings. Your absurdities. We're ready to laugh, to nod in
somber agreement, to feel melancholy, to cheer you on. We want to read a
story and have to spend a few minutes absorbing it. We want to look at
your art and lose ourselves in a time and place in the frame."

Send us your
best.
Words and images such as the ones in "Far and Away" come from a
place and a time that is clearly special.
Share yours with us.
We're not interested in technical articles. There's many fine and
outstanding places for those. We don't want gear reviews or how-to. We're
not into photos of someone with an outstanding brown trout or redfish,
unless it goes with an accepted article or captures a special moment that
tells a drama without words.
In short here's what we do not want in photographs that do
not go with an article, i.e., a photo feature:
- A photo of a fisherman with a fish he just caught, or a guy
with a twelve-point buck, grinning at a cameraman.
- Landscapes, no matter how lovely, don't tell stories the vast
majority of the time. There are exceptions to this notion, but they'll have
to be extraordinary.
- A still-life can sometimes imply a story. We ran a photo of a
bamboo rod, reel and bunch of flies called "Bayou Bound" and it
conjures the anticipation of the journey, the expectation of the catch and
the magic of being far and away. We want
to look at your art and lose ourselves in a time and place in the frame.
Here's what we do want in articles:
- It's not our venue to publish
what flies were working on the Madison that fall day, how many dekes it took
to bring in the mallards, how that deep-running crankbait reaches the bass,
except as asides within a story. We want to know why that trip was special:
Was it the people you were with? The encounter with a bear? The weather that
almost capsized the boat?
- Give us your heartwarmings. Your absurdities. We're ready to
laugh, to nod in somber agreement, to feel melancholy, to cheer you on. We
want to read a story and have to spend a few minutes absorbing it.
Read the site, you'll see what we mean.
Our content standards are high, as are our artistic guidelines.
Submissions will be considered and approved by a two-thirds majority of our
panel. Expect to be edited, but we will pass all changes by you for approval
before publishing them here. The material you provide remains yours, and can
be pulled off this site at any time at your request.
Send your material to: submissions@farandawayonline.com
We're not a paying venue, we're just a few folks that put
together an e-zine that we want to be top notch, a beacon for writers and
artists to showcase their work. For readers to know they can find quality
here in these page. Some of us are published elsewhere, some of us are not,
but we all share the same passion: Pride in what we create.
