A
Note from Us
Thank you for the great response we got from our request for submissions. Because of it, we decided to carry Far & Away into 2009. We've got enough for a couple more issues, but continue to encourage submissions. Pardon us, too, if we're slow to respond...we all have our lives and in the current state of the economy, some of us are facing challenging times. We are, however, committed to Far & Away, to our contributors and to our readers. -- The Staff |

A Way With Words
How hard to realize that every camp of men or beast has this glorious starry firmament for a roof! In such places standing alone on the mountain-top it is easy to realize that whatever special nests we make - leaves and moss like the marmots and birds, or tents or piled stone - we all dwell in a house of one room - the world with the firmament for its roof - and are sailing the celestial spaces without leaving any track. - John Muir |

A Way With Words What does a man need---really need? A few pounds of food each day, heat and shelter, six feet to lie down in---and some form of working activity that will yield a sense of accomplishment. That's all---in the material sense. And we know it. But we are brainwashed by our economic system until we end up beneath a pyramid of time payments, mortgages, preposterous gadgetry, playthings that divert our attention from the sheer idiocy of the charade. The years thunder by. The dreams of youth grow dim where they lie caked in dust on the shelves of patience. Before we know it, the tomb is sealed. Where, then, lies the answer? In choice. Which shall it be: bankruptcy of purse or bankruptcy of life? - Sterling Hayden, Wanderer |
