"Hymns voiced by the falling stream
Rainbow trout flash like stained glass"

So a while back, one Easter, a friend invited me to go to Easter Sunrise Service with him.

I told him thanks, but no thanks. It was my first day off from work in three weeks and I planned to go to the river and give my thanks while fly fishing.
He gave me some hell about going fishing instead of going to church on Easter Sunday.  I wrote this piece of free verse for him. Well, probably I wrote it for me while thinking I was writing it for him. Then I invited him to come to church with me some Sunday. He never has. I hope, someday, he will attend Sunday Sunrise Service with me.

My Sunday sunrise service begins
I come here to pray as the fog lifts up
My thoughts rise up from self to heavens
To worship, thank, hold in awe, praise
Seek guidance, renew my faith
Rejuvenate my soul
Replace the patience in my heart
Then my conscious eye takes in this place

A boulder for a pew
Sermon clicked off by pawl
Hymns voiced by the falling stream
Rainbow trout flash like stained glass
Thermos coffee and yesterday's biscuit for communion
My church, built by the master craftsman
Standing the test of time
That's my Sunday sunrise service

About the Author:
I was born and grew up in the southern New Mexico desert. We didn't have a lot of fishing options there and then but we made the most of what water we could get to.
I come from a long line of fishermen. My father, his father and his father, were all anglers. I cannot remember a time in my life that I haven't been fishing. I've cast earth worms under a red and white bobber to bluegill on a Zebco spincast reel and I've drifted worms and salmon eggs downstream to rainbow trout in the high mountains when I was young on the same Zebco set up.
I've dangled minnows for crappie in rivers and lakes. I've taken my share of white bass trolling plugs behind the boat. I've been fortunate to have learned some about striper fishing. I was even a competitive tournament angler on a bass circuit at one time in my life. Fly fishing though, has captured my heart and soul.
One of my greatest pleasures in life has been introducing people to fishing. Especially children. To see their enthusiasm and optimism and the shining face when they do make a catch is a wonderful thing.
I guide in Montana during the summer season and was recently asked to join a guide service in Tennessee, during the winter. I am a fortunate man to be able to do this for a living. It's an awesome office.
